Description

The pinnacle of Peter Lehmsnn Wines, Stonewell Shiraz was first made in 1987. The name Stonewell was chosen after the district Peter Lehmann believed showed the characters he most admired in Barossa Shiraz.

Today it is created with the same philosphy: to be Peter Lehmann's best blended Shiraz of vintage. From our legacy of loyal growers across the Barossa's many sub-regions, we seek out the very best Shiraz grapes: ones that are smaller, deeper in colour and more intensely flavoured than the rest. We call them 'Little Black Jewls'.

Fruit for Stonewell 2016 was carefully slected from low yielding vineyards across the Barossa. Each of these vineyards gave fruits of extraordinary density, colour and flavour showcasing the very best of the region.

Stonewell 2016 was matured in French oak hogsheads for 19 months adding structure, complexity and length to the wine. Dark red in colour, this vintage of Stonewell exhibits lifted aromas of juicy ripe black fruits, garnered by floral violet and cedar notes. The palate displays all the hallmarks of classic Stonewell, full-bodied with chocolate, mint and aniseed notes. The structure is firm and long and finishes with pure velvet-like tannins. This limited Shiraz is drinking beautifully now and will improve with age from good cellaring.

Tasting Notes

COLOUR Deep and bright with a purple hue. NOSE/AROMA Black plum, blackberry and licorice. PALATE Full bodied, classic Stonewell with massive density and length. Classic blue and black fruits with ironstone and graphite tannins. A long life ahead, one of the all-time classic Stonewell’s.
